Group Marketing Director

Major Automotive Brand

The Brief

To appoint the first Group Marketing Director for a leading automotive organisation.

Reporting into the Managing Director, the Group Marketing Director of this £multi-billion business would be responsible for defining the business’ marketing and digital strategy.

Due to the previous traditional structure of the organisation, the successful candidate would need to be able to create a strategy to attract and retain a high volume of customers from scratch. The ability to drive change in a sales-led organisation was vital. Furthermore, the remote location of the business’ headquarters would be a challenge.

The Process

The client wanted to hire from outside the automotive industry, so we searched for and pinpointed key targets from a diverse range of backgrounds using predetermined criteria, and set about engaging with them.

Fortune Hill used their extensive network and rigorous mapping methodologies to identify and connect with key priority candidates based in the local area. We also made contact with talent recommended to us from further afield.

The brand is not well known outside the industry, but due to the professional and influential nature of our approach we were able to get individuals to commit to exploring the opportunity further. Our shortlist of 5 individuals was well received, and all 5 were interviewed.

The Result

The client was able to hire an individual who had all of the required skills and experience for the role and was a perfect cultural fit.

This individual has been able to successfully impart their ideas to the client’s organisation, and revolutionised the business’ approach to marketing. The individual’s appointment has already had a direct impact on sales.

Defining success

We have a very simple measure of success – that our Partners appoint the very best possible Leader for any given role. We love watching the performance of a business, and the lives of people, improve as a result.
