Yesterday, I gave someone a copy of our book, Excerpts from Experts. On the way to meet them I dived into the ‘Why I Love Marketing’ chapter. Here a few excerpts that leapt off the page at me…

‘The fact that there is more than one right answer to any question. (It is also the most frustrating thing about marketing, but there you go!)’ Rory Sutherland

What’s not to love! What we do genuinely makes a difference. Healthy, thriving businesses are a crucial part of our society and economy, and marketing plays a crucial role in delivering that growth. We must remember that we are doing something really important. Also, marketing is fun! Nathan Ansell

I still find it absolutely incredible that we can make decisions that could impact the lives of millions of people. The first product I launched was Dairylea Dunkers when I worked for Kraft, and the thrill of seeing it on the shelf for the first time was incredible. And that buzz has never gone away. It’s an incredible privilege and one that I never take for granted. Sharry Cramond

I do love marketing. There’s huge variety and constant learning. The speed is exhilarating too. Having the ability to influence consumer behaviour, to impact culture, and to measure your work’s performance is hugely rewarding. Susan O’Brien

Marketing is anthropology. It is, arguably, the only business discipline that has humanity at its very heart. It is impossible to be a great marketer without having a sincere appreciation for human beings and human nature. Kenyatte Nelson

No day is the same and you get to work on challenging but rewarding and fun work, working alongside brilliant creative and commercial people Pete Markey

I love the diversity of our remit, our focus on the customer and our integrative role in the organisation – so many things come together through marketing’s door to then be leveraged through our channels to engage customers. I really believe that as marketers we have great jobs, we are at the forefront of growth, innovation and creativity in our respective companies. Nina Bibby
