The Brief

To identify and attract a Head of Customer Insight who could evangelise CRM in a business that previously had no capability in this area.

The Head of Customer Insight would be responsible for creating and executing an insight and analytics strategy across a disparate group of businesses. The individual had to have relevant previous experience including building and developing a data-set. They required a complete technical understanding of CRM and the commercial acumen to then make insight-led recommendations.

The Process

Fortune Hill invested considerable time to ensure that all stakeholders agreed the role and person specifications.

As this was a newly created function, it was essential that we understood the personalities of the key individuals that the successful candidate would be required to influence. Based on our finding and observations of the dynamics within the business, it was agreed that the most important consideration, in addition to skillset, was the individual's interpersonal style. Therefore, our search activities were focussed across a broad range of industries beyond retail. A target list of consumer-focussed companies known to maximise the benefit of customer data was agreed by our client. It was also agreed that they would see a diverse set of candidates from various backgrounds.

The Result

Fortune Hill enabled our client to appoint an exceptional individual with extensive experience in establishing customer insight functions.

The chosen candidate joined from a specialist consulting firm. Previously he had worked on client-side and within larger consultancies. Since his appointment our client has made huge strides forward with their use of data and customer insight.
