The Brief

Our brief was to appoint a world-class Buying Director to support our client’s expansion in the UK.

We had previously completed two similar assignments for this client, who retained us on an ongoing basis due to the success of the previous candidates we placed. The Buying Director needed to have a strong academic record and be on a rapid upward trajectory in their career – a real 'high-flyer.' Rather than seeking a Buying Director for a specific product category, our client wanted to find the best talent the UK had to offer and tailor the role around the capabilities of the selected individual.

The Process

The research team at Fortune Hill built an extensive list of target companies and meticulously mapped every corner of the market to ensure we identified all relevant individuals.

We approached more than 160 individuals, whom we qualified before presenting with a compelling story about our client and the role. Following further assessments to determine technical capability and cultural fit, we presented our client with a shortlist of the best candidates the market had to offer.

The Result

Our client was able to appoint an exceptional individual who perfectly fitted the brief and their company culture.

They previously worked for one of our client's key competitors and the client supported them to live away from home during the week in order to take on the role. During this process, we identified and have maintained engagement with a pipeline of talented individuals which will support our client in appointing future Buying Directors.
