Our brief was to appoint a Buying Director to a new role at a retailer within the competitive home and garden space.
Although the performance of the business had improved following a recent acquisition, our client faced a number of challenges that had to be addressed to enable continued year-on-year growth. A key part of addressing these challenges was the company's decision to split the role of Trading Director into separate Buying and Merchandising roles, with a senior and talented individual leading each department.
Fortune Hill invested considerable time to ensure that all stakeholders agreed with the role and person specifications. As the team was underperforming, we needed to unearth an individual with proven experience as a successful member of a ‘trading board’; someone with a demonstrable and proven ability to lead, challenge and develop a positive and productive team.
From the agreed list of 150 target companies our research team conducted a search to identify individuals capable of fulfilling the role. They also networked extensively with senior leaders who led the commercial function within a retail organisation.
We were able to generate a significant number of recommendations, including one for the individual who our client appointed to the role.
